IEP teams meet regularly to discuss the progress of the child. Meetings are held monthly, bi-monthly, or in some cases quarterly. Each district and each team decides upon frequency of meetings on a case by case basis, based upon what is best for the child. As people that are familiar with the child and have an on-going relationship with the family, the Vital Behavior Services staff may be called upon to join in planning and/or collaboration meetings. As team members share successful stories and possibly some less-than fortunate challenges, we are able to provide recommendations to improve the child’s behavioral and academic experience. Our role at team meetings is to facilitate communication and share progress updates between the home and school programs or amongst the direct teaching program, the classroom, and related services. Behavior support is a welcome addition to the enrichment of a large percentage of IEP teams.
