Applied Behavior Analysis is a well-developed science, based on the studies of B.F. Skinner, with a focus on the study of human behavior. Objective data helps gauge progress and therefore guides clinical practice and instructional decisions. ABA is effective because it breaks skills into a series of smaller steps to teach socially appropriate behaviors and responses.
ABA asserts that:
- Behavior can be studied
- Human behavior follows certain patterns
- Behavior is a function of genetics and environment (nature and nurture)
ABA is used successfully to treat a number of individuals in a variety of settings.
